Ways to protect hair while surfing
Hot summers mean no school, nice weather, plenty of fun and children’s games. Not for the parents, however. Summer is coming and the children generally get dirty, soggy and stinky by the end of the day, in the heat or in summer camps. If you go to the beach or teach your child to swim in the summer, your hair is also influenced by dry, brittle chlorine! But don’t worry, there are ways to protect hair while surfing that ensures healthy hair and clean scalp.
It can be tricky to look nice when travelling. If you are on a long journey or just spend a week abroad, new climates and activities will devastate your natural beauty.
If you love to live on the beach as much as I do, you know it can be devastating on your hair. See my tips below to find out how to treat your hair at beach.
Tips for keeping hair health for surfers
Give a rest to your hair
Your hair will face a lot of changes throughout your trip. The climate, temperature, moisture and even the hardness of the water can differ and can mess up your hair. Don’t apply all this to your usual styling routine. Give a rest to your hair, leave the straighteners behind, let the hair dry after a shower naturally and don’t wash them over.
The Beach Hair Treatment
Chlorine and salt will dry out your hair. Rinse your hair with fresh water after bathing, then blitz the ends with a left-in conditioner. Another suggestion is to slurry your hair, preferably with olive or coconut oil, before you swim in the sea or the water of the pool. In this way the hair absorbs oil rather than toxic salt and chlorine.
Protect your hair from the Sun
Don’t let your hair burn or overheat! When you go out into the light, wear a hat or a headscarf and double with a UV safety spray.
Hair Care on a long trip
If you’re gone for a long time, you have to make sure you keep on cutting regularly to get rid of damaged ends and keep your hair safe. You may even think about getting a new look or even hair extensions to revitalize stuff.
Know some types of beach hairstyles
Go to YouTube and learn some simple hairstyles which work for the type and length of your hair. Braids and loose buns are great for the beach and are ideal for holding your hair off in hot weather. But don’t go more than a couple of days without brushing your hair; hair is more likely to split.
